Works in ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini or any chat AI.

Edit the fields and every prompt below updates. Start with prompt 1 in a fresh chat (or a dedicated project), then use the daily ones in the same chat so the AI keeps context.

How do you use ChatGPT as an accountability partner?

Start a fresh chat, paste a setup prompt that states your goal, your tone and the check-in rules, then return to the same chat every morning and evening. Keeping one chat preserves the running log. On ChatGPT's paid plans you can also use scheduled tasks so it messages you first.

Per ChatGPT's pricing page, checked October 30, 2026, scheduled tasks are included on the Go and Plus plans and not on the Free plan. Projects are available on Free. Other chat AIs differ, so prompt six asks the AI to tell you plainly if it can't schedule messages.

Which prompt tone works best?

Pick the tone you would actually answer at 9 pm on a bad day. Most people do best with "steady coach" or "supportive friend". "Drill sergeant" helps people who shrug off gentle nudges, and "data analyst" suits people who are motivated by numbers and patterns rather than encouragement. You can switch tones mid-month.

What are the limits of using a chat AI for accountability?

A chat AI only knows what you tell it, can't feel let down, and won't notice if you simply stop opening the chat unless it can message you first. It may also lose details in very long chats. That's why the pack ends with a summary prompt you can paste to a human partner each week.

Lab note

Prompt rule four, "never invent progress I did not report", is there for a reason. Chat AIs can fill in gaps confidently. Ask it to show the log when you review, and correct it if anything is wrong.

When is a dedicated AI coach app worth it over free prompts?

A dedicated app makes sense when you want the planning and check-ins to happen without setup: the app writes the day's tasks, messages you first, keeps score over months, and may connect a group. If free prompts keep you consistent for 30 days, you may not need to pay anything.

If you do want an app, our AI coach comparison lists the options from their own pages, including the one we work on.

Frequently asked questions

Do these prompts work in Claude and Gemini?

Yes. They're plain text and don't rely on any one product. Scheduling support varies by product and plan, so check your AI's own help page.

Should I share personal health details with an AI?

Share only what you're comfortable storing with that company, and check its privacy settings. For medical or mental-health goals, use the AI as a reminder tool, not as a source of advice.

Can I edit the prompts?

Yes. They're a starting point. Keep the check-in format and the log rule, and change everything else to fit you.
