5. Track this week
What is a 90-day goal plan?
A 90-day goal plan breaks one goal into three layers: milestones at day 30, 60 and 90, one objective for each of the 13 weeks, and one to three actions you do every day. The goal tells you where you are going. The weekly objectives and daily actions tell you what to do today.
Ninety days is long enough to see a real change and short enough that the deadline still feels close. It also matches how long new habits can take: in a study of 96 people building a daily habit, Lally and colleagues (2010) found it took a median of 66 days for the behavior to feel automatic, with a wide range.
How do you break a 90-day goal into weekly objectives?
Work backward from the day-90 milestone. Decide what must be true at day 60 and day 30, then split each 30-day block into four or five weekly objectives that each move you one step closer. Every objective should be finished or not finished by the end of its week, with no gray area.
Good weekly objectives are specific and countable: "run three times for 20 minutes" rather than "run more". If an objective slips, mark it partly done or missed instead of moving it silently. The planner shows each week's status in the progress strip so the pattern is visible.
What should your daily actions be?
Daily actions are the one to three things you do every day no matter what kind of day it is. Make them small enough to finish on your worst day, such as a 20-minute walk instead of a full workout. The planner checks them off by date and shows what percentage you have kept.
Fewer is better. One action you keep every day beats three you keep half the time, and the percentage in the dashboard makes that trade-off obvious. If your kept rate drops below about half for two weeks, shrink the action rather than adding willpower.
How do you run the weekly check-in?
Pick one day each week, mark that week's objective as done, partly done or missed, and look at your daily-action percentage. Then copy the check-in summary from the planner and send it to your partner, group or coach. Reporting to another person is what turns a plan into accountability.
Gollwitzer's research on implementation intentions found that "when X happens, I will do Y" plans improve follow-through (Gollwitzer, 1999), so put the check-in at a fixed time. If you don't have someone to report to yet, see how to find an accountability partner online and set terms with the partner agreement generator.
Where is my plan saved?
Your plan is saved in your own browser's local storage on this device, and nothing is sent to a server. To move it to another device, download a backup file and restore it there. Clearing your browser data deletes the plan, so download a backup or print a copy if it matters to you.
Frequently asked questions
Is the 90-day goal planner free?
Yes. It is free, needs no account and asks for no email address. Everything runs in your browser.
Can I print the planner or save it as a PDF?
Yes. Click "Print or save as PDF" and the planner prints a one-page summary: your goal, milestones, daily actions and a 13-week table with each week's objective, status and daily check-offs. Choose "Save as PDF" in the print dialog for a file.
Can I plan more than one goal?
The planner holds one goal at a time on purpose, because splitting attention across several 90-day goals is a common reason none of them get finished. If you need a second plan, download a backup of the first, clear the planner and start again.
What happens after day 90?
Mark the day-90 milestone, print or back up the plan, then clear it and set the next 90 days. Keep any daily action that worked as a standing habit and pick a new goal for the next block.
Can my accountability partner see my planner?
Not directly, since it only lives in your browser. Use "Copy this week's check-in" to send a short summary of the week's objective, daily actions kept and next week's objective by text, chat or email.
